1916 Easter week Public notice - Food Supply (Limited Edition)
This Public Notice first appears in the Dublin Evening Mail on Thursday May the 4th 1916 but were also posted around the city. It addresses the difficulties for traders and the residents of Dublin in obtaining food and fuel supplies as a result of the Rising.
It states that "Any civilian exhibiting Letter Heading or similar Printed Form or Billhead of any trader in foodstuffs or Coal, bearing a signed statement that he is engaged on his employers business will be permitted by the Military to pass sentries". In addition, below, it provides the details and phone numbers of the traders that have been provided with "Telephonic facilities" and it states that " All food supplies which have been, and are being delivered at pre-disturbance rates to Retailers by the Government Food Supply Committee ARE PROCURABLE AT THESE RATES" . At the end of the Notice it also states that "All necessary protectection to Retail and Wholesale traders will be given by the Military Authorities".
