County Donegal - Townland Survey of the County of Donegal (1838) A stunning Ordnance Survey Map of County Donegal first published in 1838, on a globally unprecedented scale of six inches to one mile, stretches along the entire massive and wild coastline from Ballyshannon to Lough Foyle, and along the borders with the counties of Derry, Tyrone, Fermanagh and back to Leitrim .Incorporating remarkable detail from within all of the parishes in areas of Inishowen , Boylagh , Raphoe , Kilmacrenan , Tirhugh , and Banagh. The backdrop events surrounding this very mapping of Donegal by the British Military Royal Sappers and Miners formed the background to Brian Friel's magnificent 1980 play Translations where a British Army Officer falls in love with a local girl in the small village of Ballybeg (Báile Beag, translated in Gaelic as meaning "small town") with tragic consequences. This extraordinary map is made up of 110 numbered grid boxes which are indexed in a table on the map, , any one or more of which can reproduced in their original full size or can be customised into an smaller framed extract from the map as a special order in consultation with our customisation team. This map is an absolute must have or gift for anyone from Donegal or with an interest in Donegal's history.
Beautifully reproduced on high quality art paper in its original size and mounted in a 790mm x1100mm Hogarth 18th Century style frame behind plexiglass (or glass if requested following placement of order).
