County Cork - Glengariff c.1840

A beautiful view of Glengariff on the Beara Peninsula (c.1840) by William H. Bartlett from above the old Berehaven Road looking over the dark woods towards the "lofty mountains of Berehaven and the bold shores of Bantry Bay" (finely captured in the close-up detail inset below).

A travelling couple and their dog in the foreground provide a human perspective on the grandeur of the scenery behind them, while other travellers further down the road are clearly taken by the beauty of the scenery around them on what looks like a fine summer's day. 

Please note the Pine Green mount board is not as quite dark as it appears in the frame image and the colour of the final print is closer to the detail sample from the picture inset below.
