An Saorstát - The Free State - Michael Collins Memorial Number, No. 28 Vol.1 (First Edition) Dublin Tuesday, August 29, 1922 Page 2. Tributes include:

"ET TU,BRUTE! - The quenching of Our Shining Lamp" by Kevin O'Higgins (later assassinated in 1927) which movingly opens with "Michael Collins is dead. I know it now for I have seen him stretched in his coffin, sleeping his last sleep".

Accompanied by a photo of Collins "AT PORTABELLO - first photo as Commander in Chief", he follows his tribute with a beautifully chosen poem "The Torch-Bearer" by "SEORSA".

The second half of the page is a tribute from Alice Stopford Green entitled "IRELAND'S PRIDE AND IRELAND'S SORROW" accompanied by a photo of a suited Collins taken at "HANS PLACE, LONDON - During the Peace Negotiations." The tribute opens with "Ireland has many sorrows but she has no woe like this" and ends with a sonnet called "The Bequest" by Sean Mac Caoilte [1885-1922], aka. John Forrestal from Tullamore, Co. Offaly, a long-time Sinn Fein literary activist and actor from a well-known nationalist family, strongly pro-treaty, as well as a 1922 Free State Emissary when he travelled to the US with Piaras Beaslaí and James O'Mara. Mac Caoilte had a remarkable life in his own right and sadly died of pneumonia in October 1922) .

Each of the pages from this fabulous 250 limited edition broadsheet is reproduced on 210 gsm Satin art paper, set behind glass, and tastefully framed on mottled green pine suede backing in a fine antique style Gold Leaf frame. This remarkable tribute is a beautiful collectors item for historians and admirers of Michael Collins.
