An Saorstát - The Free State - Michael Collins Memorial Number, No. 28 Vol.1 (First Edition) Dublin Tuesday, August 29, 1922 Page 1 (Front Cover)

Includes a magnificent centre front page half-length photograph of Collins in uniform. This rare and seminal 8-Page tribute to the fallen leader with revealing and emotional tributes from many of his contemporaries was printed by Alex Thom & Co. Ltd Crow St. and published at 3 - 4 College St. Dublin, immediately after his lying-in-state and funeral.

This emotive and remarkable broadsheet, with its montage of many photographs and tributes, is an ageless testimony to the sorrow of a nation.

The first page contains a remarkable tribute to him by Eoin MacNeill " How we can make him live". It includes a poetic elegy signed by "O.G." called "Micheál Ó Coileáin", and "Cork's Gift to Dublin" by Seamus Ó hAodha. Reading the tributes on this page and throughout the broadsheet, it is impossible not to be struck by the deep sense loss and sorrow of the many authors who knew him well.

My own grandfather, when being interviewed in the 1970s for a historical documentary on The History of Ireland, openly wept when discussing Collin's death over 50 years later, such was his impact on those who knew him well and on the nation as a whole. Through the insights and outpouring of grief on these pages we get a contemporary first-hand glimpse of the legend of Michael Collins by those who knew him intimately.

Each of the pages from this fabulous 250 limited edition broadsheet is reproduced on 210 gsm Satin art paper, set behind glass, and tastefully framed on mottled green pine suede backing in a fine antique style Gold Leaf frame. This remarkable tribute is a beautiful collector's item for historians and admirers of Michael Collins.
